One Chinese news media reported on the Hallyu syndrome, which refers to the popularity of Korean dramas in China. China Daily on February 23, 2014, reported a news article on the front page titled, “Surfing the Hallyu Wave” and reported that the age distribution of the Hallyu Korean drama fans is enlarging, and that it is not only the young women in their teen ages and twenties, but also older women who watch the Korean dramas. A woman recently went to a family gathering to celebrate her grandmother’s 88th birthday. The grandmother told her grandchild, “Please tell me that Lee Min Ho did not receive any plastic surgery. Lee Min Ho has to be a natural beauty.” The same news article also reported that Korean dramas cover one third of foreign drama and film contents in Chinese internet sites. It also talked about the mentioning of chicken and beer by Chun Song Yi, played by actress Jun Ji Hyun, in the recently ended popular SBS drama “You Who Came From The Stars,” and its popularity in China.
